Small Cell Lung Cancer Treatments

Meet Dr. Charles Rudin, a medical oncologist specializing in care of patients with lung cancer.  Medical oncologists diagnose and treat cancers and benign and malignant tumors. Dr. Rudin serves as the Chief of the Thoracic Oncology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and, as such, he wears many hats. Dr. Rudin's clinic treats patients with all types of lung cancer, but he specializes in Small Cell Lung Cancer, an aggressive (fast-growing) cancer that forms in tissues of the lung and can spread to other parts of the body. The cancer cells look small and oval-shaped when looked at under a microscope and is often metastatic (spread to other parts of the body) at the time of diagnosis.

Funding for Small Cell Lung Cancer Research

Dr. Rudin directs a laboratory that studies new approaches to the treatment of lung cancer. Funding for this lab is critical in finding new treatments for the patients he sees in his clinic.

Cancer Research Funding for Lung Cancer: Changing the Tide

Dr. Rudin sees the tide turning for lung cancer research. What are the factors that are making this happen?
