Carlsbad, Calif. (KGTV) — A Carlsbad man who lost his brother to lung cancer is speaking out about his family’s experience in hopes of raising awareness and funding for research and better treatment

Andrew Pynes brother, Craig Pynes, was diagnosed with the disease after a trip to the doctor for an issue with his heart, but an x-ray revealed a spot on his lung.

The news came as a complete surprise to the family because Craig had never smoked and lead a healthy lifestyle. He was 47-years-old at the time.

Craig underwent chemo and radiation but after two years lost his battle with cancer.

Now, his brother Andrew is involved with the Lung Cancer Foundation of America and wants to raise awareness that lung cancer can strike anyone anytime.

On Sunday, July 23 the Lung Cancer Foundation of America will hold its 8th annual Day at the Races fundraiser.
