Change the Face of Lung Cancer in Your Community
Help change the numbers in the lung cancer community. Through the hairstylist creative community, LCFA is getting the word out about the importance of lung cancer screening, getting biomarker testing when diagnosed, and the benefits of clinical trials.
If You Have Lungs, You Can Get Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in Black people and will account for more than 11% of all new cancer diagnoses in the population group in 2022. Lung cancer is also the leading cause of cancer-related mortality in Black men and the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in Black women.
Overall, lung cancer kills almost twice as many women as breast cancer in the U.S. — it surpassed breast cancer in 1987.

LCFA has identified the relationships between stylists and clients as a safe space where sensitive topics, like lung cancer, can be discussed.
In October 2022, LCFA started work on a pilot program to help educate hairdressers about simple questions they can ask their clients.
