Under the lights of Chef Amar Santana’s acclaimed restaurant, Broadway, in Laguna Beach, lung cancer patient and advocate Lysa Buonanno and LCFA’s Young Investigator grant award recipient, Triparna Sen prepared Chef Amar’s delicious, fresh, healthful dish of pan roasted salmon with ratatouille, roasted asparagus, and red wine butter sauce.
New York Times bestselling author, activist, and actress, Annabelle Gurwitch, hosted LCFA’s inaugural gastronomical challenge and fundraiser, Day at the Chef’s Table.
Annabelle was a captivating hostess putting her experience from “Dinner and a Movie” to full use. Moving around the open designed restaurant to ask Chef Amar questions about his recipes, learning about Lysa’s 10-year milestone of #livingwithlungcancer, and teasing Triparna’s attention to detail translating from the lab to the kitchen.
Interviewing LCFA co-founder and President Kim Norris, she learned a few “lung cancer by the numbers” facts. Executive Director Jim Baranski shared the importance of sponsor relations and their influence on lung cancer research.
While sitting at the chef’s table, the event sponsors had front row seats to watch Chef Amar coach Lysa and Triparna in a Patient Advocate vs Researcher challenge. In addition to being a hugely fun event, this culinary competition helped raise over $50,000 to fund lung cancer research grants.
